You’re ready to sell, you open your filing cabinet, and… it’s gone. The title is missing.
In Florida, you cannot sell a mobile home without the physical paper title (unless it’s an electronic title held by the state, but you still need to transfer it).
The “Form 82101” Process
To replace a lost title, you must file Form 82101 (Application for Duplicate or Lost in Transit/Reassignment for a Motor Vehicle, Mobile Home or Vessel Title Certificate).
- Fill out the form with your VIN and personal info.
- Pay the fee ($75.25 for fast title, or standard fees for mail-in).
- Wait. (Mail-in can take weeks).
The Double-Wide Trouble
If you have a double-wide, you have two titles. If you lost both, you need to file two applications and pay two fees.
Can I sell without it?
Technically, no. The new buyer cannot register the home without it. However, professional buyers can help you speed this up.
How we help: If you sell to Sun Ray Mobile Homes, we can often:
- Have you sign a “Power of Attorney” for the title work.
- We apply for the duplicate title during the transfer process.
- We advance the cost of the duplicate title fees from the purchase price.
Don’t let a piece of paper stop your sale.
